Andi Flax Featured in Newport This Week
Learning an instrument at an early age can be tricky. When she was very young, local musician Andrea Flax was classically trained in piano, voice and ballet, until she changed gears and headed in the opposite musical direction.
“I found [that] the intense structure of classical ballet and music somewhat hindered my creative expression, and the rigidity of the discipline really wore down my sense of self-esteem,” she said. “I lost the wild abandon that all children possess when singing and dancing. I lost that joy and sense of play. You might say I went rogue and started to ignore the rules.”
